Not an Original Observation
San Francisco is a very photogenic city. My greatest challenge yesterday as I strolled around absorbing the town's personality was to shed the "traditional" photographer's fear of wasting film, obviously not an issue with digital imaging and cloud computing. Still, at times I felt a bit foolish snapping what to locals must seem quite prosiac subjects. Like streetcars. Not cable cars, mind you, but pre-war, art deco PCCs and even older wooden-bodied trollies, still in use by San Franciscans as daily transportation.
San Francisco is an unabashed theme park for adults that somehow manages to avoid being precious. It exudes a relaxed self-cofidence that is at once refreshing and immediately familiar. I've always suspected that I'm a Californian trapped in a Bostonian's body and this trip confirmed it.

My thanks again to Mike Bender for his hospitality. He promises pictures of his new Nantucket Skiff on the Bay and I look forward to posting them on this site.
Tomorrow begins the long trek home and the day-to-day work of the real Roth Boat Builders. Thanks for coming along!
